Events, Activities and Retreats

As well as the regular Monday Dharma class and the Wednesday Sangha nights we hold Men only events, Women only events and special one off activities.

Below are details of our weekly meetings and other events in the next few months. See the East Kent Buddhist Group calendar for all events.

Sangha night

Every Wednesday at 7pm we have a drop-in gathering.

This is a friendly and welcoming gathering which includes Meditation, a discussion or a talk on the Buddha Dharma, Buddhist Ritual as well as a cup of tea. Normally at Danapriya flat

Sangha Night Wed 12th May at Danapriya's as usual with Jayaka from the London Buddhist Centre, he is the men's Mitra Convener. He will give us a talk and lead the discussion, at Danapriya flat

These are open to all those who are familiar with the Triranta Buddhist Community's meditation practices of the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana.

Dharma Class

Mondays at 7:00pm to 9:00pm

For those who want to take their understanding of the Dharma further.

This group are following the Triratna Buddhist Community. Mitra study course. The course is a step by step programme of study, all the the papers for the course can be found at Free Buddhist Audio - Dharma Class notes

Wesak Festival - Celebration of the Buddha's Enlightenment
Sunday 30th May 2010, from 1000 to 1630

This is the biggest Buddhist festival of the year, celebrated by Buddhist all around the world.

It will be held at Vincent Stokes house in Folkestone

Please bring vegetarian lunch to share.
Day by donation.

Vajrashraddha will join us to do the following;

"I will be giving a talk and a slide show called the "Historical Buddha" to celebrate his remarkable life. The talk and slides will together weave the story of the Buddha's journey - as well as explaining about the more known facts about the Buddha's struggle to gain Enlightenment I will also be sharing such things as what the conditions were like in northern India when he lived; what type of currency was used; what other religious teachers and teachings were around; how living conditions were set up. The talk will set the scene for us to more evocatively imagine the Buddha while we celebrate Wesak festival."

"Loving Life more" - weekend retreat
at The Vajrasana Retreat Centre, Suffolk - July 2010

3 nights - Friday, 30th July to Monday, 2nd August 2010.

Danapriya is leading this retreat for members of the East Kent Buddhist Group at Vajrasana Retreat Centre, Suffolk

The next beginners event will be
A 4 week Meditation Course starting on Thursday 30th of September, then 7, 14 and 21 Oct at 1900 to 2045.

The course will be in Folkestone. Two Meditation practices will be taught, the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Cultivation of Loving Kindness (Metta Bhavana)
