Sangha Day Festival - November 2008

Sunday 16th November 2008 - led by Danapriya

There are many festival days in the Buddhist calendar and they all fall on full moon days.
The full moon day of November is Sangha Day for convenience the closest Sunday was chosen to celebrate).

This day included Meditations, a talk by Khemananda, an ordained member of the Triranta Buddhist Order *2, discussion and vegetarian lunch. Also on this day John Wills and John Gridley's Mitra Ceremony was held.

This was particularly exciting as it was Deal's first - Hooray! Or as Buddhists say, Sadhu! (more about what a mitra ceremony is below).

What is a Mitra?

Within the Triranta Buddhist Community *1 the first step to a deepening commitment as a Buddhist is that individuals can decide for themselves to become a Mitra.  Mitra is the Pali word for Friend.  There are three criteria, firstly one feels oneself to be a Buddhist, secondly one is trying to practice the precepts and lastly that one wants to practice within the context of the Triranta Buddhist Community *1.

If anyone else is considering becoming a Mitra do speak to Danapriya
